For the top screen, I mixed the SA2 title screen elements with the background of the game cover. Check them out and you'll understand. To create the top screen, I used at least three different photos - a beach with clouds, a nebula and Earth. Lots of color ajusts, gradients, and even a ripped file from the game (Sonic and Shadow lineart). Created at least 4 versions of the top screen as well (my friends must be sick of me asking which version is the best, lol). The bottom screen... I had some ideas, but in the end I went again for the background of the SA2 cover for inspiration. I just took the lineart and inserted the white circles.
